Be a part of the action without a two-wave hold down!
This year, you can experience the Mavericks Invitational with friends, family, surfers, musicians, some great food and drink, music and that epic awards ceremony when we crown the 2012-2013 winner of the Mavericks Invitational. Your ticket not only gets you into this great event, but also lets you enjoy some cool deals with local businesses, restaurants and bars in the community. Oh, and you’re helping out the Boys & Girls Club of the Coastside while you’re at it.
Where is the Festival?
The Mavericks Festival is on the grounds of the Oceana Hotel & Spa in Princeton Harbor, Half Moon Bay. This is the epicenter for the Mavericks Invitational located on the road to Mavericks and across from Jeff Clark’s legendary Mavericks Surf Shop.
Why Can’t I Go to the Beach?
The giant waves of Mavericks are located ½ mile offshore at Pillar Point. The beach at Mavericks is very small, and when it hits high tide and giant swells, the beach is underwater. Why can’t you go to the beach? There is no beach during the giant swells.
That leaves you with hiking on the nearby bluffs, which are environmentally sensitive areas that cannot handle the crowds of thousands of people. We want to help protect our fans and our environment, and still give you the best seat in the house! So, we’re moving the viewing area to the Festival, where you will see all the live action on Jumbo screens and get exclusive commentary from our announcers and the surfers as they finish their heats.
For public safety, local authorities from San Mateo County Sheriff, California Parks, CHP, San Mateo County Harbor District and other participating agencies will close off all roads to Pillar Point, including access to the beach ad bluffs.
What time does it start?
The Mavericks Festival starts at 8 a.m. just as the first heat of the contest starts. The festival will run all day long with a live steam of the contest action. As soon as the final heat is complete, all the action on the water will move to the Festival, where the surfers will gather for the Awards Ceremony. The event wraps up at sunset.
Where do I park?
Parking is located at the Half Moon Bay Airport. You can plan to come to town for the day and simply park there, or you can buy your package that includes tickets to the festival and parking. Proceeds from the parking benefit the Coastside Boys & Girls Club, which provides activities, ballparks and support for the children of our community.
How much does it cost?
GENERAL ADMISSION is $10.00 ($20.00 at the gate, if not sold out) includes: Official Mavericks Invitational poster, program, wristband and admission to the festival grounds with access to food, giveaways, merchandise, viewing areas and a chance to meet and greet the surfers and legends of big wave surfing. Parking is extra, as that will all be run by and benefiting the Boys & Girls Club of the Coastside.
The ticket price also includes special offers from businesses throughout the Pillar Point area and supports the Mavericks Invitational Surfing Contest.
But wait, you can also purchase VIP ticket packages that include preferred seating, special schwag, and even seating on one of a contest boat. Check back very soon for more details.
Are the tickets refundable?
No, tickets are non-refundable.
What if there are no waves and contest doesn’t happen this year? Do I just lose my money?
No way! If the contest doesn’t happen, we’re having an end of season party, and your ticket gets you admission to this limited venue. So, if you purchase your ticket in adnvance, only YOU will have access to the end of season party. We’ll provide more details on this, but be sure it will (1) be indoors, where it’s dry and warm and you can look the goods with no worry and (2) be a raucous good time with a crowd that loves a good adrenaline rush.
How can we make the greatest big wave surfing event better? Simple. Throw an awards ceremony to top off the end of an epic season.
Every year the sport of big wave surfing witnesses a push of progress, raising the level of performance in one of the world’s most extreme sports. This progress does not always happen on the contest day. Some of the greatest achievements in big wave history go unnoticed or are overshadowed by the contest itself.
